Name That Tune!

Have you ever heard a song and wished you knew its name? Enter new music identification services like 411Song and the UK’s Shazaam. For a small fee, they’ll play Name That Tune with the songs you hear. Just call the service on your mobile phone, wait for the beep and then hold the phone to the music for about 15 seconds. They’ll text you back with the song’s name and recording artist—and an offer to buy the song on CD or as a ringtone.

More after the jump…

The service isn’t free. 411Song costs 99cents, which is charged directly to your mobile phone bill. If they can’t identify the song, they won’t charge you for trying. It works with AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon. They plan to support Nextel and Boost in the near future.
