OpenOffice free office suite

OpenOffice is a free office suite application that can open and edit common Microsoft Office files.

OpenOffice can edit and save .doc (Word), .xls (Excel) and .ppt (PowerPoint) files. It’s free and it runs on PC or Mac. Mac users be warned, though: OpenOffice is still a bit clunky on OS X (it requires a windowing system called X11 to run), so you may be better off using AppleWorks instead.

Update: NeoOfffice is a Mac OS X version of OpenOffice which does not require X11. More info on NeoOffice coming up.
