Boost Firefox’s Speed

Behind our favorite web browser there is a world of settings waiting to be revealed. With these settings we can take advantage of tweaking some of them to work at our advantage. Four main settings modified will make websites load faster and seem quicker without downloading any extra plugins or software.

Type in

about:config
in your Firefox address bar.
This will bring up a firefox “registry” specific to your computer.

First Setting
Scroll down and look for the following entry:

network.http.pipelining

Right click on the entry and click “Toggle” to change the value from false to true.
This will essentially allow you to manually change how many requests to the server, which will improve speed.

Second Setting
Scroll down and look for the following entry:

network.http.proxy.pipelining

Right click on the entry and click “Toggle” to change the value from false to true.
This will do the same for http proxy requests.

Third Setting
Scroll down and look for the following entry:

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Right click on the entry and click “Modify” to change the value to 30.
This means it will make 30 requests to a server at once instead of just the default few.

Fourth Setting
Right-click anywhere blank and select New > Integer.
Name it

nglayout.initialpaint.delay
and set its value to “0″.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

It’s as easy as that. Broadband connections will notice a nice speed boost to many websites, especially with lots of images and content.
